What Are Diseases Protein

Introduction

While there are many mechanisms that can lead to disease, one of them is through a virulent protein or a mutated protein. Basically, proteins are the biological molecules of the body. They play an integral structural and functional role in our body, and certain factors can lead to the production of diseases protein. The simple example of diseases protein includes pyrogen, which is formed during a fever state.

These proteins serve a variety of purposes and they can be targeted for the detection and the curing of a disease as well. The principle behind this approach is that if we are able to correct or removed the mutated protein, the body would be able to resume its normal function. The figure below shows a normal protein referred to as normal conformer while the disease causing one is known as rogue conformer.

The history of diseases protein dates back to the time when the structure of protein was being studied by the likes of Pauling and Lehninger. Much advancement in our knowledge of proteins and their structural differentiation came from the development of techniques like X-ray crystallography. Basically, it helps us to image the protein in a 3 D view and also allows us to know how different atoms in the protein are bonded. Based on the information that was obtained through this technique, scientists were able to classify different proteins. Generally proteins that had a role in structure were more compact, whereas those that were involved in function were of more globular nature. Other techniques that were based on fractional distillation, also added to our knowledge of diseases protein.

The feature of diseases protein is based on the fact that there are minor differences between it and the normal protein. This is a significant point, since a minor mutation or a shift in structure allows the protein to be recognized by the body, but the mutation is sufficient enough to cause the disease as well. This is normally seen in cases of anemia where the oxygen carrying protein, hemoglobin is mutated and becomes a diseases protein. So, the feature of such a protein is that it resembles enough to be accepted in the body, and yet since of its atom/portion is mutated, the normal function would not happen. Owing to this function, a number of diseases are caused in the body. These mutations cause diseases of various types, for instance, metabolic diseases. Majority of the dysfunction of the body are caused by the malfunction of proteins.

Conclusion

The important thing about proteins is that they form a major chunk of our body's enzymes. Enzymes are very significant when it comes to the biochemical reactions in the body. All of the reactions that take place in our body are catalyzed by enzymes. These enzymes are made from proteins. So it is vital that if one experiences even the slightest of malfunctions pertaining to diet related issues, one must be checked for their enzyme activity. In this way, the effect of mutated protein can be avoided at an early stage.
