There are some times that you find yourself receiving gifts that are too big for you. Or sometimes, you find yourself ending up on your mom’s closet to find something to wear but her clothes are just too big for you. Well, the good thing is that you can wear clothing that is too big for you without looking too old fashioned or too man-like. Here are some steps that you can follow.
Step 1: Fold the sleeves
The sleeves are the first thing that you should get rid of when you wear clothing that is too big for you. You don’t necessarily need to take off the sleeves or do some sewing. All you need to do is to fold them properly. If you wear oversized clothing with long sleeves, fold the sleeves up to your cuffs or about three inches above your cuffs. Make the folds thicker (preferably about one and a half inch to about two inches) if the sleeves are too long so that it wouldn’t look too bulky. For short sleeves, fold the sleeves twice or thrice depending on the length. Make sure to make the folds thinner (one inch to about one and a half inch) to make the sleeves look less bulky and more appropriate.
Step 2: Wear a belt
If you wear clothing that is too big and too long, it could always pass for a dress. All you need to do is to wear a belt. Wearing belts would make a statement if you wear clothing that is oversized or too big for you. It would also add shape to the clothing. You can wear the belt either on your hips or on the waist, depending on your preferred look. In choosing the type of belt to wear, it would be preferable to wear slim belts instead of chunky wide belts.
Step 3: Tuck or Tie a knot
When you wear clothing that is too big and its length reaches your thighs, you can always tuck your clothing to keep the shape of your upper torso and to also make the clothing look less oversized. If you’re not comfortable to tuck your clothing, you can make a knot on the bottom part of the clothing, securing the knot either on the side or on the front. Tying a knot would make the bottom part of your clothing look fit and chic. It would also be preferable to hide the tied knot by folding it on the inside of your clothing to have a more fashionable look.
Step 4: Wear accessories
Sometimes, if you wear clothing that is too big for you, it would be best to wear accessories to have a nicer and more fashionable look. It would also make your look much more interesting since oversized or big clothing would look quite boring sometimes. You can wear necklaces, bracelets, earrings, or rings but make sure not to over accessorize. If you wear a necklace that is big or has many layers, make sure to keep your earrings simple, so don’t wear dangling earrings, just go for studded ones, or you can even skip wearing them. It is acceptable to over accessorize on bracelets and rings. However, when you wear clothing that is big or oversized don’t over accessorize on necklaces because it would make your top look heavier.
Step 5: Wear jeggings or leggings
Big clothing would make your upper torso look heavier than your lower torso. So the technique that you can do to wear clothing that is too big for you is to make your whole appearance well balanced. How to do it? You should not wear clothing that is too loose at the bottom such as wide legs, or even long skirts because these would not only make your whole look heavy, it would also make the overall look too oversized and too loose. You should also skip the denim pants because denims make your lower torso heavier. Wear something fit and light such as jeggings or leggings. Jeggings are still jeans but they are more stretchable and have a tight fit. Both jeggings and leggings make your upper torso look lighter, making a balanced overall appearance.
No matter if you lost weight and as a consequence nothing in your wardrobe fits you anymore, or you simply saw a lovely blouse at the store and bought it without trying it first, there's always a solution for your large clothes. You just need to find it.
