Introduction

A mini notebook, is commonly known as a netbook, while notebook refers to a fully fledged laptop, the smallest of which must have a 13 inch screen, netbooks refers to laptops with a screen of 12 inches or smaller. But for the sake sense and simplicity, we'll refer to to net books as "mini notebooks" from here on out. The thing about mini notebooks is, there are far to many in the market, and almost 80 percent of them are complete and utter crap. They're made from super cheap plastics, crappy screens, easy to break keyboards and are slow enough to even make a slug feel shame. But fear not, there are a select few mini notebooks, that are well made, have great screens, fast processors, can play games and even look good. So if you're student on a budget, or need a laptop that's fit in your purse, or just don't want to spend to much money, then here are the best five mini notebooks.

History

Mini notebooks first appeared on the market in the later half of 2007, they were designed to be cheaper, smaller and less powerful laptops. The had significantly lower resolutions screens, slow processors, no optical hard drives and had screens that ranged from 5 inches to a maximum of 12 inches. The also weighed a lot less than normal laptops, the heaviest mini notebook was weighed in at 3 pounds, where as most laptops way somewhere between 4 to 6 pounds in weight. But since 2007, mini notebooks have evolved into very useable laptops, as they're now fast, have good keyboards, and some even have discrete graphic cards for light gaming.

Features

Not only is the Samsung NF310 one of the best mini notebooks in the market, it's also the only one with a island-style keyboard, which is must for writers, typists and students. It also looks like a Macbook, which isn't a bad thing at all. It's also very well made, the plastic is both strong and tightly fitted, while the very large track-pad is made from aluminum and feels both smooth and accurate when used. Another added bonus to this mini notebook is it's high resolution screen, which is a true rarity among mini notebooks. But that's not all it has to offer, underneath that Macbbok like exterior lies a dual core processors, so all your e-mailing, video watching, typing and Facebook activities will be done without a hitch. This mini notebooks costs about $370. The next best mine notebook is the HP Mini 1103, which has an excellently long battery life and cheap price tag, and dual core processor. It's available for $280.

Third in line is the Toshiba Mini NB505, which has an excellent track pad, very long battery life and comes in multiple colors. It comes in at $300. The fourth best mini notebook is the Acer Aspire One D260, which in  short, is a powerhouse. Its blue color scheme is very eye catching, and it's large track pad is a joy to use, but it's dual core processor is powerful enough to run Windows 7 Premium in 64 bit mode. It costs $400. Last but not least, is the ASUS Eee PC 1215N mini notebook, which beats the pants off most fully grown laptops. This sleek black laptop, with a 12 inch screen and giant trackpad, has a dual core processor, high resolution screen and a discrete graphics card from NVIDIA. This people, is the mini notebook you can play WOW (World of Warcraft) on. It's also the most expensive mini notebook on our list, as it costs nearly $500, but it's worth the price.
