Introduction

Infectious skin diseases can be caused by fungus, bacteria, viruses, lice and mites. Skin infections are spread when share things and equipment with already infected people. Bacterial infections occur when a bacteria enters into the body through a scratch, cut or an open wound on the body. Impetigo is a common bacterial infection that is caused by Staphylococcus aureus and occasionally by Streptococcus pyogenes. There are viral infections such as herpes and warts. Lice infections are another form of infectious skin diseases which occurs when an insect infects the skin on one part of the body, often the head. Another type is scabies which is causes by skin infestation by mites. Fungal skin infections include ring worms which appear on the skin in ring-like lesions.

History

Infectious skin diseases are brought about by different cause like water, air, dirt and many more where this fungus, bacteria and parasites are found. Most common way to get an infection is through contact. It can be person to person this can happen when someone with a bacterial infection touches a wound, scratch or cut of, coughs on or kisses someone who is not infected. The bacteria enter into the body of the uninfected person and they end up getting the ski disease. It can also be animal to person. Pets and domestic animals have a lot of germs. If an infected animal or one with parasites scratches or bites you, you end up getting infected. It can also be from a mother to baby. If a mother is infected and pregnant that can easily spread to the unborn child. And o mother can also infect a young baby because she constantly handles him/her. The infection can also be indirect through an insect bite or food contamination.

Features

There are several ways of treating infectious skin diseases. Antibiotics are one of them. They are used to fight bacterial infections. The doctor is in a better position to help if he/she knows which bacterial he/is fighting. Do not overuse antibiotics because it can lead to some of the bacteria being resistant and therefore much more difficult to treat. Antiviral are used to treat viral infections. But they do not treat all of them like AIDS, hepatitis B, herpes, hepatitis C and influenza. Antifungal are used to treat fungal infections especially those that infect the throat and mouth. Antiparasites are used to cure infections caused by parasites such as malaria. Although some parasites can be resistant.
