Introduction
Type 1 diabetes and celiac disease are interrelated with each other. Celiac disease is often diagnosed in the patients diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. In majority of cases, type 1 diabetic people have the subsequent diagnosis of celiac disease, which is caused mainly due to mal-absorption and damages in the intestine. Where the type 1 diabetes is refers to insulin dependent diabetic condition, celiac disease refers to the intolerance in taking gluten foods. Here is the brief outlook on type 1 diabetes and the subsequent diagnosis of celiac disease.
Type 1 Diabetes
Diabetes, also referred as diabetes mellitus has become one of the common health ailments. It is caused due to lack of insulin production or inability to use the insulin for extracting energy. Insulin deficiency is developed as a result of damages in the pancreas. Insulin is a hormone released by pancreas which absorbs the glucose from the food and converts into energy. When there is insulin deficiency, glucose extracted from the food remains in the blood, resulting with enhancing the blood glucose levels.
Type 1 Diabetes – Causes, symptoms, effects and treatment
Diabetes can be classified into type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, diabetes by inheritance, genital diabetes and gestational diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is more severe condition than type 2 diabetes. Often, type 1 diabetes result as subsequent development from type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a fatal health condition without insulin. Eventually, type 1 diabetes is referred as the Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus, IDDM. As indicated by the name, people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes are dependent on insulin injection. This condition is characterized by the absence of insulin secretion caused due to damaged pancreas. It leads to increase the glucose levels in the blood. Symptoms of type 1 diabetes include excessive thirst, excessive urination at short intervals, urge to urinate, constant hunger regardless of quantity of intake, etc.
People diagnosed with type 2 diabetes should take utmost care on their diet and regular physical activates. Carelessness on controlling the type 2 diabetes leads towards subsequent diagnosis with type 1 diabetes.
In very rare cases, when the pregnant women diagnosed with diabetes, called gestational diabetes, it can lead towards subsequent diagnosis of type 1 diabetes in new born babies. However, proper diet and periodical medical examination can control the blood glucose levels during the gestational diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is also developed as genital disease or diabetes by inheritance.
Diabetic patients diagnosed with type 1 diabetes cannot survive without administering insulin. The painful aspect is insulin is administered in the body only through injections and there is no other alternative method to take insulin.
Type 1 Diabetes and Celiac Disease
As stated above, people with type 1 diabetes have subsequent diagnosis of celiac disease. The former is developed as a result of damaged pancreas leading towards absence of insulin production, where the latter is intolerance to food, caused due to damages in the innermost linings of small intestine. Both the conditions are interrelated to each other with mal-absorption due to insulin deficiency, damages in the pancreas and damages in the small intestine.
There is no treatment to cure the type 1 diabetes completely, except attempting to reduce the blood sugar levels by administering insulin. Similarly, celiac disease can be treated only by following gluten free diet.
Tips and comments
Since both these conditions are associated with mal-absorption and mal-nutrition, implementing the necessary changes in the dietary habits can help in recovery. However, when it comes to treating celiac disease, avoiding gluten foods is the only treatment available, where the gluten is found more in wheat, barley, millet, etc.
Majority of the diseases are caused due to poor diet and unhealthy food choice. Implementing right choice of foods blended with all essential nutrition can prevent and treat all health conditions.
