Introduction

As time passes, your copy of Windows may work more slowly. This is because of things like software and games that you have installed or were not removed properly during uninstallation. When you install software or a game, files are installed on your PC's registry. When you uninstall a program, all of the files are not removed and few remain in the memory of the registry.

Step 1

Memory of a computer is directly linked with the system registry. The Windows registry is a directory and has the capability to store settings and options for the operating system for Microsoft Windows 32-bit versions, 64-bit versions and Windows Mobile. It consists of information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, users, preferences of the PC, and more. When a user makes changes to Control Panel settings, file associations, system policies and installed software, the changes are done and stored in the memory of registry.

Step 2

C-Cleaner is a freeware which can be used to check any links which are broken from the registry and also had the option to remove the invalid registry entries. Mostly people say that it is dangerous to change registry settings of memory. People have been using this freeware and did not face any serious problems. But yes they do notice some improvement in their system speed especially with the start-up time.

Step 3

In Windows Vista, unfortunately, this software does not work quite well because some of the options are not compatible with it. However there are many other application that can be installed. These will automatically delete the useless files from the memory of your system.

Step 4

System Mechanic of IOLO Technologies is software that provides a better job than C-Cleaner. This is because of the reason, its not free. If you have a copy of System Mechanic, then it will tell you how and what functions it has performed in memory of a PC.

Step 5

The size of your user account has effect on the speed of computer when you start up. You can have a look to the size of your user account from the User Profiles frame. Click on the Settings button in the User Profiles frame and you will see a list of users and the size of each of the users.

Tips

Avoid storing files which contain documents and pictures in my account folders. Desktop files are stored in User Profiles. The more icons and files you stored on the desktop, it will slow down the memory and your system will become stand still. So it would be perfect to store the files to another drive or partition which will make your files secure and also increase the speed of your system.

Conclusion

Using disk cleanup helps you clean your Internet temporary files, downloaded program files, setup files and compress files. This is another way to clean up your system and it might not help to speed up your system. But at least you'll find a place where the files can be deleted safely. Its when you have enough of free disk space which is very important for your computer to run smoothly. These kind of utility programs are very effective in maintaining system performance and they keep a close eye on memory of computer.
