As time goes by, you will eventually need a new Microsoft disk, either to re-install the OS (operating system), or install it on a new computer, or simply for the sake of having a back up. If you've lost your Microsoft disk or simply need a new one, there are various ways to get a new Microsoft disk, and we'll outline the top five methods in this easy five step guide. So, settle down as we show you the five easiest ways to get a new Windows Disk, for your laptop or desktop.
The first steps is to simply buy one online, you can go Microsoft's website and order, it should arrive within a couple of days. Of course this method is a bit expensive, as it includes shipping costs, but on the upside you get to choose what type of Windows Disk you want, premium, home, business etc. You can also choose whether you want an older version (Windows XP for example). Of course this option is not available in every country, so make sure you check whether you can order it or not, also you'll need a credit card or PayPal account to pay for the Windows Disk.
The second step is try out Ebay or Amazon, as you can find copies on sale there at a cheaper price, if you are interested in much older version if Windows, such as Windows 95 or Windows ME, whether for a hobby or because you want to run an older machine on it, or you are conducting some sort of experiment, you chances of finding an older Windows Disk on Ebay or Amazon are much easier. Of course, Craigslist is an equally good place to find a Windows Disk, but the chances of getting scammed or ripped off are very high there, so I don't recommend it.
The third step is to go and physically buy the Windows Disk from your local software vendor, electronic store or gadget shop. You might not find the range you are looking for, but they are almost certainly going to stock Windows Vista and Windows 7. Some might even have Windows XP lying around. The good thing about buying from a shop is, you always have a place to go back and get a quick replacement (if the customer service is good) in case anything goes wrong with your Windows Disk.
The fourth step is to make a copy. From Windows XP till Windows 7, Microsoft have been selling the activation code, not the actual disk. So if you can verify your disk activation code, your technically allowed to make a copy of the disk. It's best to have a back up, because you never know how quickly you might need to re-install an OS, what if you have a presentation in the afternoon and your system break at night? Where will you go shopping for a Windows Disk? Make a copy and keep it and the original in a safe place.
The fifth and final step is to enjoy your new Windows OS!
Be careful not to scratch your Windows Disk.
