How To Find a 3G Card

High Speed Internet Access On The Go

3G data cards allow users to have access to the Internet from anywhere in the world provided that they have access to a cell phone network. These devices can be plugged in to any type of devices including tablets to access the Internet, some of these devices can also be used to make phone calls using the device that they are plugged into. Most 3G cards have an SIM slot where you can insert your SIM card or use a pre installed SIM card to gain Internet access. A 3G data card is very useful thing to have and should be one of the things that an Internet addict should have at his arsenal. There are a wide range of services and devices available in the market to suit your pocket and needs. Here are some of the main things to look out for while trying to find a 3G card that suits your needs.

Step 1

The first thing to check while buying a 3G card is number of networks that it supports, there are devices that support only a 3G network while others can log in to other type of networks like CDMA or GSM to make sure that you have Internet access anywhere in the world. Though there would be an obvious decrease in the Internet access speed, you can be sure that you will have uninterrupted access to the Internet to get your job done.

Step 2

Look out for SIM locked devices, these devices allow you to only use a certain service provider. This can turn out to be a major headache if you want to change to another service provider, you may have to end up paying extra to change the service provider or even worse get a new card.

Step 3

The Internet speeds offered by the devices varies from device to device and the service provider you are using. Many shops let you try out the devices before you buy them. Be sure to try the devices and ask any questions you have about the devices.

Step 4

Choose one 3g card network service that suits your taste.

Step 5

Never pay for a 3g card service that offers less and costs a lot.

Don't Expect Too Much

Though 3G devices are ideal alternatives to normal broadband connections, the speeds will not remain constant all the time because of network congestion and variations in the signal strength. The signal strength depends on the distance of the card from the cell phone tower and the surroundings. It would be normal to expect anywhere between 1-3 Mbps on a busy day in most areas.

Watch out for Hidden Costs

Do not expect 3G broadband services to be as cheap as your normal wired Internet services. Most 3G service providers allow you to use a certain amount of bandwidth for the rental plan they offer after which the Internet connection is either throttled to a much slower speed or you are charged for a certain amount of data usage. There are a lot of websites that provide comparisons between the different services provided by network carriers to make it easier for you to choose the right operator and plan. Making sure that you read all the terms and condition of the service is crucial to making sure that you have chosen the right plan and device.
