Will Bladder Infections Responds To Cranberry Juice?

Published at 02/21/2012 20:06:37

Introduction

Bladder infections can attack the urethra, kidneys, ureters, and other parts of the excretory system. Typically called a urinary tract infection, a bladder infection can lead to pain when urinating and frequent urination. Left untreated, the infection may sometimes progress and even lead to death. Bladder infections responds to several at-home remedies, which can reduce or eliminate symptoms of a bladder infection. If an infection persists for more than a few days, patients should see a doctor to discuss the possibility of antibiotic treatment. Bladder infections may not always responds to at-home remedies like drinking cranberry juice. Home remedies should never replace the consultation and advice of a trained pediatrician or doctor.

Treating Bladder Infections with Cranberry Juice

When suffering from a bladder infection, it is important to drink plenty of water and other fluids, which may help flush out the bacteria in the excretory system. Glasses of cranberry juice or eating cranberries or blueberries can help eliminate bacteria. Mix cranberry juice with water or add it to another juice, such as pineapple juice, if the taste is otherwise too bitter. Avoid drinking alcohol or soda pop, which may worsen bladder infection symptoms. It is also possible that consuming other juices or fruits high in Vitamin C can help reduce the amount of bacteria in the bladder. While these remedies may help alleviate pain, a physician's assistance is necessary to get all of the bacteria out of a person's body. Left untreated, a bladder infection may fade and return multiple times. If a bladder infection does not responds to drinking cranberry juice, urinate frequently to help eliminate bacteria from the body. Do not wait to use the bathroom. Drink fluids frequently and often to help flush bacteria from the body. If pain and frequent urination persist despite at-home treatment and a full course of antibiotics, consult with your doctor to find out your next treatment options. A bladder infection may not responds to one course of antibiotics, but may respond to another.

Causes and Treatment of Bladder Infections

There are certain risk factors that increase the likelihood of developing a bladder infection. Sexual activity, the use of birth control methods such as condoms treated with spermicidal foam, the use of a catheter, or certain diseases that impact the immune system such as cancer and AIDS may increase the chances of developing bladder infection. Maintaining proper hygiene and, for women, urinating immediately after sexual relations can reduce the number of bladder infections a person suffers. Left untreated, a bladder infection targeting one organ of the excretory system may spread to other nearby organs. A doctor may prescribe antibiotics to eliminate bacteria from the bladder, as well as a prescription for medications that can reduce pain and inflammation during urination.

Conclusion

Those suffering from a bladder infection should abstain from sexual contact, as contact may spread bacteria to their partner. Symptoms of a bladder infection in children and toddlers are typically different than those experienced by an adult. Children may suffer from a fever, vomiting or diarrhea while suffering from a bladder infection or a urinary tract infection. While an infection may responds to at-home remedies, parents should always take children and infants to a pediatrician immediately if a bladder infection is suspected.
