What Are The Causes Of Bark Tree Diseases

Introduction

Bark tree disease are diseases that affect the bark of a tree sporadically during certain periods of growth and specific environmental conditions. Bacteria, fungi and viruses enter open wounded areas of the bark that may be caused by weather, insects, pruning, mowers or other mechanical means.

Stone fruits are those with soft edible flesh around a hard pit. Trees in the Prunus family, such as apricots, cherries, peaches and plums, produce stone fruits. Bark tree diseases that affects stone fruits is black knot, which is caused by the fungus . Elongated hard black knots girdle and kill the small branches

History

Where there is drought, freezing injury, toxic chemicals and poor nutrition the tree bark diseases are likely to occur. Defoliation by insects or leaf pathogens also encourages increased incidence and severity of cankersMost microorganisms that cause the bark tree diseases are not able to penetrate directly through dead outer bark to reach the phloem. However, they can quickly result to wounds such as those that occur at weak branch junctions or those that are inflicted by insects, birds, and other wild animals

Ants also can be the cause of the bark tree diseases because they are prevalent at the base of the trunk and if there is sawdust coming from the trunk, it shows that the tree has been damaged

Features

Trees should be planted in full sun where there is a well-drained soil to avoid bark tree diseases.. Were there is compacted soil, it weakens the trees and makes them more susceptible to diseases. The trees should be planted the on adistance apart to allow good air circulation, which helps prevent bark tree diseases. Infected limbs and branches should be pruned out and destroyed in order to avoid the bark tree diseases. Leaves, rotten fruit and other debris under diseased bark trees should be removed and destroyed. If diseased plant material is added to a compost pile, it could spread the disease further.

Aphides are the most that affect the trees by depleting the leaves of nutrients and pollute them with their excretion leading to the tree bark diseases.

A growth can also become the cause of a bark tree disease because of its prevalent.if that happens, then the growth should be removed

High winds, frost, anddry spells can damage a tree leading to the bark tree diseases. The appearance of these damages can be numerous (dried leaves, cracked bark, broken limbs). Parasites can attack the host plant in these damaged areas.

Tips and Comments

Fruit trees should be fertilized at the recommended rate and times to encourage healthy growth. Insecticides can be used to get rid of insects that carry diseases. Most fruit tree diseases cannot be controlled but they may be prevented by applications of a fungicide. Some types of fungicides for  trees are copper, sulfur and Bordeaux, which is a mixture of calcium hydroxide and copper sulfate. Fungicides should be applied according to the manufacturer's directions

To avoid bark tree diseases, you need to fertilize the trees at the recommended rate and times to encourage a healthy growth

You can also use insecticides to get rid of insects that carry the bark tree diseases

The spectrum of wood destroying insects is very large. Frequently it is the larva of insects breeding in the wood that damages the bark and parts of the wood core, which gives fungi the opportunity to infest a tree leading to the bark tree diseases

Woodpeckers build their nests mostly in trees with tree rot. Tree rot is an indicator of fungal decay which causes the tree diseases.
