What You Should Know About 2G And 3G

These days to enhance the field of technologies, more and more research is going on to make more flexible, compatible and durable technologies.  In the 21st century, the two technologies, 2G and 3G,  have become the most famous cellular technologies available.  This technology is being used by almost every cellular manufacturer. These both are the most prominent technologies in the mobile industry. 2G is also called global system for cellular communication. 2G technology was first time introduced in the year of 1991.

Both technologies are widely used in wireless mobile communication. 3G technology was introduced first time in the year of 2001. Second and third generations of mobile networks are 2G and 3G technologies. There are huge differences between these two technologies that you should know about. The major differences between these technologies are feature related differences, which are available to users of mobile. 2G can never work with more than one implementation. Manufacturer only have to select one while using 2G, on which phone would be able to work.

That’s why it could be only able to work either on North America or Europe. Where as 3G allows two standard patterns for North America and Europe. Also some mobiles phone with these standard works on both of these regions at a time.

Features

3G technologies are more compatible than 2G technology. Both of these technology standards are focused on many other technologies. 3G can run on 2G network without having any issues. 2G networks have low speed than 3G network. 2G networks are not able to run all the applications that 3G network can run easily. 3G provides higher speed for packet data. 2G technologies used different switching techniques for voice and data but 3G used single switching techniques for both voice and data. Also 2G provides circuit based switching whereas 3G provides packet based switching. 2G is the most clear communication mode in the cellular industry.

The data rate of 2G technology is too low and it provides voice oriented services only. The data rate of 3G technology is much higher and it supports data oriented services which enhance video streaming, web access and faster downloading. Architecture, network performance, and modulation of both of these technologies are quite different from each other. 3G used more secured encrypted mobile communication. To access various form of technology 2G used TDMA and FDMA techniques. 3G used CDMA based technology for faster access including CDA2000, WCDMA, CDMA2000 and 1X EV-DO. 2G provide 270kbps for data access whereas 3G allow 2MBPS faster download. 3G also provides authentication while creating communication with other devices. 3G allow some extra features over 2G technologies.

3G standards are more compatible with International Mobile Telecommunications. 2G used different varieties of low and higher frequencies. The main problem with 2G is that it sometimes creates bad signal problems in rainy weather or bad tower conditions etc. At the same time 3G also has some disadvantages, the major issue with 3G technology is that 3G is not easily available in some areas.
