What is Windows?
The term Windows software generally refers to Microsoft Windows operating systems such as Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. These operating systems allow the user to operate a computer with ease. Windows software dominates the PC Market, with Windows operating systems being the preferred choice of most PC users. The most recent version of Windows is Windows 7. The next Windows software, Windows 8, is currently in development.
When Microsoft first starting producing Windows software, they didn’t have to worry so much about malware, viruses, or worms. However, in 2005, Microsoft reportedly saw a spike in malware--up to 1,000 viruses and worms in Windows operating systems. They realized that something had to be done. Newer Window software such as XP, Vista, and Windows 7 began taking measures to prevent dangers to the PC such as malware and viruses. The first of which is the ability to set up an “Administrator” account. The administrator has complete control over the PC, and can control what’s allowed to go through (via downloads and internet), firewalls, and more. Microsoft also released an anti-spyware program for their system called “Microsoft Anti-Spyware”, which eventually became “Windows Defender”, found automatically in newer Windows software and operating systems. Windows Defender is completely free, and it’s designed to help protect against spyware and other unwanted forms of malware.
Microsoft Windows VS Mac OS X:
Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X are the most well-known, and the most commonly used operating systems. One big criticism of Windows is that it’s far more likely to get a virus then its Mac counterpart. However, this is due mostly to the fact that the majority of users choose Windows software over Mac software, and therefore malware developers target Windows the most. Both systems require “patches” or “updates”, though it’s not clear that either operating system is superior in that respect. However, Mac operating systems download updates automatically, whereas Windows users have the option of turning the updates off if they choose to. While Mac users benefit from faster startup and shut down, studies have shown that Windows software has an easier time running graphics an applications, and that the applications run faster then they would using the Mac counterpart.
Windows 7 is the newest Windows operating system, and arguably the best. This new version of Windows software has a very pleasing interface. It looks very pristine, and is very easy to use. The system comes with a variety of preloaded gadgets such as notes, a clock, weather slideshows, CPU meter, and more. All of these gadgets can be uploaded directly to your desktop.
Some More Features
Another nice feature of Windows 7 is that it boots faster then some of its predecessors, taking approximately 25-35 seconds. Also, most of the software used in Windows Vista is compatible with Windows 7. If you bare any attachment to some of that software, you shouldn’t have any problem downloading it onto your Windows 7 operating system. There’s even a “Windows XP” mode that allows the user to run Windows XP right inside Windows 7.
