Introduction

How To Care For Oily Skin on Your Face

According to the Mayo Clinic, oily skin is caused by over productive sebaceous glands. These glands mistakenly produce more oil. This further irritates ones skin and can lead to break outs of pimples. These pimples can leave scars on the skin and make skin care a nightmare. One should know that there is a correct way to care for oily skin on your face. Visiting a dermatologist is a good option, as he or she can examine your skin and provide any prescriptions that your skin may require. However, one should also care for their oily skin at home. This requires some patience and diligence, as even oily skin types may require different things depending on the person.

Step 1

Oily skin often leads to break outs. It can also provide an unsightly appearance making make up application a nightmare. The first thing that one should do is wash the face daily. Use a soap that has no added oils. Several manufacturers make soaps for oily skin that don't have additional oils added. This will start off your day with a clean canvas and prevent the clogging of your pores. Also wash your face with a scrub to exfoliate any dead skin cells on your face. Use the scrub in a circular motion, then pat your skin dry with a clean cotton towel. Don't rub the skinhard, as this can promote break outs.

Step 2

Moisturizing oiyl skin can be a difficult task. Although oily skin has moisture, one may find that one needs additional lubrication during cold winter months. It is best to use a light moisturizer on the face. Don't use moisturizers that contain heavy oils. These oils include castor oil, petroleum, and vegetable oil. Instead, use moisturizers like aloe, grapeseed oil, and essential oils. These oils won't clog your pores, but will still add any additional moisture needed.

Step 3

When bathing or showering, use tepid water. Using hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils. It can also cause irritation and confuse your skin into producing more oils later on in the day, which is something that you don't need. This should be practiced when you are just washing your face in the sink.

Step 4

If your skin continues to act up and be oily, take a visit to your dermatologist. If your dermatologist examines you and finds that you are experiencing real difficulties, he or she may order some tests for your skin. He may also prescribe you retinoids, which will shrink the oily glands in your skin. Apply the retinoids to your skin according to the directions, and check back with your dermatologist in another month. He or she may have to adjust the dosage.

Step 5

A healthy diet is important to preventing oily skin. Stay away from fatty foods and foods that are too salty. Continue to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. A healthy diet is not only good for you internally, but is good for your skin as well. People who make changes to their diet will find that their skin improves and becomes less oily in a matter of weeks. Note: that if you go back to your old diet, you may find that your skin becomes oily again.

Tips

Try using natural and organic skin products to maintain your skin. Avoid using creams, soaps, or make up that has too many chemicals that may further irritate your skin.
